Inspiration: Girls Rooms

Even though neither of us have children at the moment, we are always inspired by kid's rooms. The fun colors and patterns make us want to take a risk in our own bedrooms! We love how the rooms below can be transitioned into the teen years. Take a look.

Decorating A Coffee Table 101

Ok, so we are not experts when it comes to decorating, but recently Marion added an orchid to her coffee table and we had an "Aha!" moment. Suddenly, the coffee table seemed to complete the living room. It was kind of amazing! So we decided to compile a list of the essentials for the coffee table.

1. Something Living: An orchid or any plant will work! It adds height to your table.
2. Conversation Piece: Everyone has an object laying around the house that will work for this; if not, find some here.
3. Pile of Books: Gather 3-4 hardback books and pile them together. Then, place your conversation piece on the pile of books.
4. Tray: A tray tends to gather the clutter that can accumulate on the coffee table, find it here.
5. Candle(s): This is the fun part, you can experiment with several candles and also the height of the candles. Try several grouped together or find one that has a great scent.
6. Matches: A box of matches should always be close by in the living room. So, why not find a fun box or even a collection of matchbooks to display on the coffee table.

Inspiration: Front Door

The front door is the first thing someone sees when they walk into your home.  This is a matter that both of us have been working on lately. Marion is in the process of repainting her house and front door, and I am building a house so I've been exploring all the options. Who would have thought there were so many choices! The first step is to think about glass or no glass (which is the easy step), then it's all about color or stain.  Here are some of our front door inspirations.

Inspiration: The Window Seat

Happy Monday! We hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend.  It was H-O-T in Charleston, but that is ok because I spent it at the pool :).  Today we are bringing you an inspiration we love.  It is something subtle that creates a large impact.  A window seat.  We love all of these.  From the end of a hall to your bedroom; this is the perfect spot to curl up with a book and coffee. What do you think? Do you have the perfect nook to build a window seat?

Inspiration: The Sunroom

You all know how much we love a porch (post here).  But there may be something we love even more, a sun room. It is the perfect combination of feeling like you are outside without having to actually be outside.  Don't get us wrong, we spend a lot of time in the great outdoors, but this way you can enjoy your coffee, wine, book, or time with friends with the comfort of air conditioning :).

End Table Styling

As promised, here are some styling tips for your end table.  I like to start with a collection of hard cover books and stack them on top of each other. I place my vintage find or decorative object on top of the stack of books. A tray has multiple uses...drink holder, clutter collector or eye catching object. This one seems to serve all of those purposes. The candle and matches also go on the tray. The end table is coming together...just add flowers...bingo, bango...you have a sharp looking end table.

It looks like fresh flowers is a common theme in these images. Wouldn't it be nice to have fresh flowers in your house 24/7? That is a bit of a reach. So, you can always add height with a vase filled with colorful lemons, limes or oranges. Then when you are out of lemons...you can just grab them from your living room. Stay tuned for more styling tips tomorrow!

Inspiration: Jewelry Displays

We love finding creative ways to display jewelry. After all, jewelry is a form of art and deserves to get some attention. Here are some fun and clever ways to display your favorite necklace, bracelet or earrings. The first image is actually taken from Marion's vanity. The necklace was a gift from her mother (similar here) and she liked it so much, she thought it should be on display 24/7. How do you display your jewelry?

Inspiration: The Breakfast Nook

We love everything to do with the breakfast nook.  Think about all the design opportunities! From fabric on the benches to the plates on the table; this is the perfect way to make your mark.  We love the light fixtures, windows, and color palettes of the images below. How fun is the pink bench with the zebra chairs? Which is your favorite?
