Inspiration: Floral Tablescape

Today is the day, Open Door Shop has officially been open for ONE year. Thank you so much for all of your support. It really is a blessing to go to work everyday doing something you love! If you are in Charleston, we hope you will stop by to celebrate with us (see invite here).

When planning our party, we talked a lot about flower arrangements and how we would incorporate them into our tablescape. We wanted to use the floral arrangements to add height to our tablescape and we were both drawn to the wispy arrangements that looked "less arranged". Since I can't unveil our tablescape on the blog quite yet; I thought I would share some photos from our inspiration board that inspired our floral tablescape.

Polar Vortex and New Items

Well, if you are reading this from somewhere in the southeast, it is safe to say you had some interesting weather this week. While the weather caused some serious issues, we have really loved hearing the positive stories that have evolved out of the Polar Vortex craziness. We have heard stories from Atlanta and Birmingham about people coming together to offer help, shelter or a hot meal to complete strangers. My 86 year old grandmother hosted a lady that had been stranded for hours and was unable to make it home. Leslie’s family took in several people for meals and beds. It is comforting to hear these stories about kindness and giving! 

In the midst of the snow, ice and bridge closings, we somehow managed to receive a shipment of tabletop pieces from our newest vendor...Terrafirma Ceramics. If you are not familiar with Terrafirma, it is time you joined the party! This stuff is A-Mazing! Each piece is made entirely by hand and kiln-fired to extremely high temperatures, giving each piece its own personality and great durability! The natural stoneware is juxtaposed with vibrantly colored and patterned porcelain surfaces. The best part...you can mix and match all of it!

Fall Update: Outfit Your Bar

Everyone knows we love a good bar (if you are a new reader, you will catch on fast). Fall means moving inside and bundling up, which means the bar becomes essential to entertaining guests! We wanted to share a few images from a photo shoot we did last week for the shop. We created a rustic bar that seemed fitting for the cool November weather.

Tablescape: Al Fresco Dining

Summertime is coming to an end, which means the days will be getting shorter soon. So make use of these last few weeks and enjoy dinner outside! We grabbed a few of our favorite items and threw together an al fresco dining experience...here is what we created.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The sun finally came out yesterday! Charleston has been under water for almost a week and I was beginning to think that was the norm. Tablescape: The Black, Gold, & White Table

There is nothing chicer than a black, gold, & white table. It just screams elegant (to us at least). I know that you may be thinking you have no reason to to entertain like this, but we beg to differ.  Just make some simple updates to your white pottery and there you go, you have the perfect table for a wonderful night with friends!

Tablescape: Easy Summer Lunch

In Charleston, the summer weather has been mild (well, mostly). In honor of the low 80s (not the era, the temperature), we decided to style an outdoor lunch tablescape. We gathered our favorite summer entertaining items and threw together a tablescape in under five minutes. Easy peasy!

We used sunflowers and our favorite home-made vases to create a center piece.

If you are low on place cards, flip over the back of unused business cards and use an ink pen to create a simple place card (Shhh...that is my best kept secret).

There you have it, an easy summer tablescape. Just add your favorite salad and enjoy.

Obsession of the Week: The Appetizer Caddy

I am not a huge cook, but it is safe to say that I can throw together a pretty good cheese spread. I grew up on appetizers before dinner. It was not unusual to enjoy some blue cheese stuffed olives prior to dinner. We were the family that sat down for dinner around 9 o'clock at night, so it was only fitting that we would nibble on salami and cheese while my mom cooked dinner.

Growing up on appetizers has turned me into an appetizer junkie. Creating the cheese board has become an art form. The obsession this week is the appetizer caddy. That may not be the politically correct term, but it sure does sound catchy. Here are a few of our favorite appetizer caddies.

Tablescape: Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day is around the corner and we thought we would share some inspiring tablescapes to help you plan the perfect table. The inspiration came from Hayneedle. I love how the table is fairly simple, but incorporates a variety of textures. The table is bright and cheery, but still sophisticated. How will you celebrate mother's day?

Tablescape: The Rustic Table

Last night, I had some girlfriends over for dinner, even though it was just a casual get together, I still wanted it to be pretty. When I got home from work, I searched the internet for some inspiration (and drank a glass of wine) and then it was time to begin styling the table. I picked neutral elements and then added a splash of blue. It was simple, but still lovely! Some people enjoy to cook, I enjoy the set-up and thus, the table was prettier then the food.

The inspiration image (below) from MarthaStewart.com, is a tablescape that I would love to recreate on the next girl's dinner. I love the rustic feel, but the touch of gold keeps it elegant.

Tabletop: Casual Easter

Spring is around the corner and that means allergies it is time to add a splash of color to your tabletop. Add fresh flowers, colorful glassware and even Easter eggs...yes, I said Easter eggs!
