Inspiration: Floral Tablescape

Today is the day, Open Door Shop has officially been open for ONE year. Thank you so much for all of your support. It really is a blessing to go to work everyday doing something you love! If you are in Charleston, we hope you will stop by to celebrate with us (see invite here).

When planning our party, we talked a lot about flower arrangements and how we would incorporate them into our tablescape. We wanted to use the floral arrangements to add height to our tablescape and we were both drawn to the wispy arrangements that looked "less arranged". Since I can't unveil our tablescape on the blog quite yet; I thought I would share some photos from our inspiration board that inspired our floral tablescape.

Tablescape: Festive Fall

It is Monday and I don't know about you, but I am ready to tackle this week. I want to exercise, eat right and knock out my "to do" list. One of the "to do" items it to start thinking about fall table decor. Since there is a chill in the air...we are starting to dream up fall tablescapes. Here is a look at our inspiration:

Tablescape: Al Fresco Dining

Summertime is coming to an end, which means the days will be getting shorter soon. So make use of these last few weeks and enjoy dinner outside! We grabbed a few of our favorite items and threw together an al fresco dining experience...here is what we created.

Inspiration: Bright Tablescapes

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The sun finally came out yesterday! Charleston has been under water for almost a week and I was beginning to think that was the norm. Isn't it funny how some sunshine can totally change your attitude. Well, the sun (and a fun weekend) inspired this bright post. Here are a few of my favorite cheery, sunny and bright tablescapes!

DIY: Gold Dipped Vases

Alright readers! It is time for our favorite DIY project. It might look familiar because we featured it here. This is a budget friendly project that will elevate any tablescape, mantel, entryway, etc.

You will need: 

• Empty, clean, glass jars/bottles
• Liquid Leaf 
• Painter's tape
• Foam paintbrush
• Newspaper

Cut a strip of painter's tape and wrap it around your glass jar. If you want your vases to have various heights of gold leaf on each vase, then wrap the tape at various heights on each jar. 

Take you foam paintbrush and begin to paint your jar. You may want to use two coats to eliminate brush strokes. Be sure to paint the bottom of your jar.

Once the liquid leaf is completely dry, slowly peal off your tape. Look at that clean edge! Eek, look at those nails...someone needs a manicure!

I like to do this project in batches.  It works best when you set up an assembly line. The gold paint dries so quickly that by the time you finish painting a dozen jars, you can start to peel off the tape. My husband and I collected glass jars and bottles for several months. One Sunday afternoon, we lined everything up and cranked out about 30 glasses. This project has limitless possibilities and the more you do, the better it looks. 

Tablescape: The Black, Gold, & White Table

There is nothing chicer than a black, gold, & white table. It just screams elegant (to us at least). I know that you may be thinking you have no reason to to entertain like this, but we beg to differ.  Just make some simple updates to your white pottery and there you go, you have the perfect table for a wonderful night with friends!

Tablescape: Easy Summer Lunch

In Charleston, the summer weather has been mild (well, mostly). In honor of the low 80s (not the era, the temperature), we decided to style an outdoor lunch tablescape. We gathered our favorite summer entertaining items and threw together a tablescape in under five minutes. Easy peasy!

We used sunflowers and our favorite home-made vases to create a center piece.

If you are low on place cards, flip over the back of unused business cards and use an ink pen to create a simple place card (Shhh...that is my best kept secret).

There you have it, an easy summer tablescape. Just add your favorite salad and enjoy.

Obsession of the Week: The Napkin Ring

So you all know how much we love to set the table and entertain.  We have done countless post on the subject (sorry we cant help it). Looking back we have seem to forgotten one of the best, most fun elements of setting the table. The napkin ring! Don't get too excited now, but seriously it is like the bow on a present, it ties the whole table together. This Kim Seybert is perfect for a girls dinner or Sunday brunch, and we love the Juliska tortoise knot for a casual porch supper. Check out our other favorites here!

Tablescape: Neon Neon Neon

This weeks tablescape is neon inspired. Neon is here and  it is here to stay.  If you start to look around on-line or even in retail stores, you will notice neon everywhere. Personally, I like it! I think it is perfect for a casual summer get together. I am loving these hardwood Nicole Porter plates. They come in a variety of color palettes. Here are a few items to get you started!

Tablescape: Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day is around the corner and we thought we would share some inspiring tablescapes to help you plan the perfect table. The inspiration came from Hayneedle. I love how the table is fairly simple, but incorporates a variety of textures. The table is bright and cheery, but still sophisticated. How will you celebrate mother's day?

Tablescape: The Backyard BBQ

Still thinking about being outside we decided to do a tablescape for a backyard BBQ. Just because your 1. in the backyard and 2. serving BBQ, does not mean you have to pull out all the paper products. We searched for some inspiration and this is what we came across.

Keeping the serving pieces simple creates a clean look. Start with a white serving bowl, then you can add texture with the serving pieces.  Make a signature outdoor cocktail.  Grab some of these festive paper straws, and pair them with a mason jar (after all this is a BBQ). Finish off this tablescape with a neutral place setting by using this jute place mat, wooden plates, super cute stamped paper bags, and adding a fun napkin for color. Now your all set! Enjoy!
